You can learn a lot about business from a celebrity

(Careers.org translation in italics) Muhammad Ali: “The man who views the world at 50 the same as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life.” (Our take: Seize the power of experience) Jennifer Aniston: “I was told to avoid the business all together because of the rejection. People would …

Thomas O’Brien

“Well, it’s about having a modern point of view, together with a love of things historical. I have an interest in modern things, but I don’t like them being forced into a minimal style that is called ‘modern’.

National Wear Red Day

Most people think they should wear red on February 14th, for that terrible, horrible, no good, very bad, Hallmark holiday (flowers that were never delivered two years ago, a boyfriend who neglected to call last year…I have the right to be bitter, ok?). Really, there is a much better reason to dress in crimson and we should do it this Friday, February 5th. National Wear Red Day is an effort to promote awareness of women’s heart disease and heart health .

A Priest, an elephant and an asylum — Thekkady, Kerala, India

Jump to the full entry & travel map Thekkady, Kerala, India Slightly disappointingly, its a bog standard small hatchback which picks me up at 6.30am today. I am surprised to see that Vishal from Kalypso who will be accompanying me on a 4 day trip inland, is not driving and infact we have our own driver, again a luxury never afforded on a recce before! Our first stop is an elephant rehabilitation and training centre 2 hours outside of the city. I am expecting hoards of camera clicking tourists for the daily spectacle of elephant washing in the river, but I am pleasantly surprised to find only small group there

Island hopping! — Koh Samet, Thailand

Jump to the full entry & travel map Koh Samet, Thailand Me and Ben caught a Baht Bus to what we thought was the right bus station to get the bus to Rayong but turned out it only went to Bangkok so we had to offer copious amounts of cash (2 Quid) to get to the correct bus station which turned out to be a shack on the road, in the end we caught a 2 hour bus ride to Rayong where were were dropped off the local equivalent of the A10 and then had to walk in the direction we thought the pier was in,.

Lost in Kowloon — Hong Kong, China

Jump to the full entry & travel map Hong Kong, China After months of anticipation, I’ve finally been able to leave the country! It’s taken much longer than I originally hoped, but I finally left. The night before I left I didn’t sleep at all, hoping that I would be able to sleep on the plane and somehow offset the jet lag

A Place of My Own — Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia

Jump to the full entry & travel map Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia One of the supposed perks of the life I have chosen is that you get to live to exotic places, and one of the attractions of this particular job was that the company was to provide my accommodation. In my own naive little way, I expected a place with Internet, cable TV and all the other simple necessities without which an ex-pat can’t possibly survive.

Back to Bangkok — Bangkok, TH.40, Thailand

Jump to the full entry & travel map Bangkok, TH.40, Thailand We woke up pretty early for the island style of life we had become custom to and began the journey on the baht bus along what they call roads and we would describe as a death trap. But risking a slipped disc for 15 Min’s with the mid morning sun already at around 25 degrees is all part of the experience! We arrived at the port and waited amid the diesel fumes of the numerous boats in the port loading and unloading the islands supplies of water, fuel and all the other essentials.

heck with the sweat — Bangkok, Thailand

Jump to the full entry & travel map Bangkok, Thailand After a fitful sleep (I think it’s my body clock, or the bed, or the air conditioners and generators that have you waking up with a headache) I up about 5am to watch the light slowly fill the sky over the balcony. Bangkok is strange in the way that due to the smog, it will always appear overcast, and the sunlight seems to travel different to a standard romantic sunrise.

Thoughts On The Past

I had a bunch of blog-able topics tumbling about in my head over the last few days, but I haven’t been able to steal the moments it would take  to sketch them out. I’ve found that I really shouldn’t attempt to write when I don’t have a clear objective or a spark of driving inspiration, yet here I am, trying to squeeze a modicum of interest out of the so recently potential-filled portion of my now-exhausted brain. No telling what may result.
