Jump to the full entry & travel map Goa, Goa, India I had a mission on my hands, get from Nepal to Goa, which would cover the whole width of India, by land! The reward would be the beach so i was ready, 81 hours on buses, trains, rickshaws and a motorbike later, getting robbed, meeting gurus and plenty of other weirdos i finally arrived in Palolem in the south of Goa. I got my beach hut for 3 quid anight, nestled just back from the beach amongst a grove of pal trees so already things were looking up.

Jump to the full entry & travel map Putian, Fujian, China Jon Mirmelli, a Phoenix real-estate investor, learned late in the morning of Sept. 28 that a never-occupied custom house on the northern fringes of this Phoenix suburb was going up for auction around noon the same day. The six-bedroom home, built on a three-acre desert brand clothing plot, has a kitchen with two dishwashers, four ovens, “antibacterial” copper sinks, and a master “spa” bathroom with space for a flat-screen TV visible from the tub.

Jump to the full entry & travel map Bangkok, Thailand So after barely making it out of SD in time (huge rainstorm the day I’m leaving even though it only rains once a year), including layovers in LA, and a 14 hr flight to Taipei, Taiwan enroute to Thailand (where I got my first asian meal of the trip-they must have been going for some kind of hybrid cuisine-chicken and rice, potato salad, and cheesecake), and about 24 total hours of travel, I finally made it to Bangkok.

Jump to the full entry & travel map Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Week One I wont go day by day as im here for a month! And it will be tedious! The flight was good but i think the plane was a bit old and squeaky haha no turbulence though and the weather was lovely when i arrived. It felt great to walk out of the terminal knowing it will be a whole month before i have to get another flight- the novelty of airports and the rigmarole of travel has worn of if it ever was a novelty! The warmth hits me and it feels great after the cold of NZ- i loved it so much there but it will be nice to shed a few layers and get some colour!! My hotel is fine- basic but thats the big city for you- and i go for a big walk to get my bearings- first stop the harbour bridge/opera house! Wow i cant believe im here and it feels utterly surreal- i actually have to pinch myself after years of dreaming of coming here its amazing to have finally done it! Really wish mum and dad were here though its a bit bittersweet but i know ill be back with them one day! They are such iconic landmarks its hard to take them in and i snap a load of pics so i dont forget! The next day im up early and another big walk- this trip will get me fit! I go to Darling Harbour which is great, very new and then get the ferry round the bay to Circular

Jump to the full entry & travel map La Paz, Bolivia P’s Report After Machu Pichu we were to make our way leisurely down to Bolivia & La Paz via Lake Titicaca for a few days – unfortunately due to no fault of my own the place we stayed had no ATMs, and thus we had to make a much earlier departure with only around 5p spare to our name. It could have been much more embarrassing if we hadn’t had a birthday gift of some dollars stashed away from my Brother and family for Gillian which paid our hostal bill. Instead of the planned lounging about in hammocks at the best hotel in town for G’s birthday, we ended up having to get the first bus south to La Paz and its cash machines.

Jump to the full entry & travel map Rurrenabaque, Bolivia A visit to the Amazon was on our to-do list but we weren’t sure when and where to go – after speaking to a few people en route, Bolivia suprisingly came out tops – it seems it is less touched by tourists so easier (relatively) to get into unspoilt areas where there is still an abundance of wildlife. We booked ourselves in for a week – 3 days in the Pampas (wetlands) and 4 in the Jungle in the Madidi National Park

Jump to the full entry & travel map Galapagos Islands, Ecuador Excitement started early today as, during breakfast, crew member Jonathan spotted what he thought were whales in the distance. Within a couple of minutes, we’d all jumped in the pangas to try to get closer to them. It turned out they were in fact dolphins, and we got pretty darn close as they swam and lept around us in a feeding frenzy (like you see on Blue Planet, where they herd the fish)

Jump to the full entry & travel map Phnom Penh, Cambodia Our day began as usual, at first light, but breakfast was several steps above our typical fare. Served in the swanky restaurant next door to our opulent hotel, it included fresh fruit/muesli, croissants, and rare coffee, brewed and served better than any chain coffee shop back home (we had espresso and cafe late). A solid breakfast was necessary, as we spent the day learning about the dark chapter of Cambodian history written and perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s.

There were two trucks for us and our “group,” Mel, Kate, Toni, and Lola, Gabe and I, all piled into one truck. We were told we wouldn’t be able to get out in order to go to the bathroom once we were in the park and so we all went when we arrived to the entrance, surprised that they were squat toilets, after all, we had paid a fortune in entrance fees

Jump to the full entry & travel map London, England, United Kingdom I can’t work out if having a break and return to reality is a good thing during a round the world trip. For the first week it seemed surreal to be back in the UK, but that quickly changed to feeling like I’d never left and as if all my travels had never actually happened. The UK has been predictably grey, wet, cold and miserable.

Jump to the full entry & travel map Wroclaw, Western Poland, Poland Wrocław (Breslau), often called ‘ Poland’s Venice ‘, has got by far the nicest Medieval-like Old Town that one might possibly imagine. It is surrounded by canals and rivers snaking across 12 islands on which it is built, and it has got over 157 bridges. It’s also got old post-German trams operating on the cobbled streets of the city, and its urban architecture consisting of short and dumpy tenement houses attracts the tourists from all over the globe.

Jump to the full entry & travel map Daintree National Park, Australia For our last day in the Cairns region we got up hella early yet again to catch an 8am tour of Daintree Rainforest National Park. The theme of the day seemed to be “Everything here will kill you so don’t stray from the ____ (insert: boat, truck, boardwalk, pathway, etc.) If you do, you become part of the food chain!” By the end of the day we will have safely navigated our way through an environment full of deadly hazards such as crocodiles, cassowarys, venomous snakes, giant spiders, poisonous plants, deadly jellyfish, parasitic vines, malaria infested mosquitos, shipwrecking capes, vast mangroves, hepped-up tour drivers and an Australian barbie picnic! Our tour started with a boat trip up the Daintree river showing us the river wildlife…most notably crocs! I have to say that they looked a lot smaller than I expected, and I expect they hear that a lot
