INDEX 2009, the leading trade interior design show in the Middle East,has signed an agreement with APID, the Association of Professional Interior Designers, making them the official partner for this year’s show. It marks the first steps towards a combined goal of introducing the Dubai Festival of Interior Design, which would place the Emirate at the forefront of the international interior design calendar. APID is hosting the 24th General Assembly of the IFI (International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers) and the World Interior Design Congress 2009.

Wir sollten naemlich am Montag in aller Herrgottsfrueh von unserem Bus abgeholt werden und in den Tongariro National Park gebracht werden, von wo aus wir eine Wanderung ueber den Schicksalsberg aus Herr der Ringe machen wollten. Waren voll aufgeregt weil die Wanderung ziemlich heftig ist und ca 8 Stunden dauert.

A lot of people in the hostel seemed to be moping about complaining about how there was no work out there, and I really didn’t want to become one of them. I’ve always had a job since I was 14, except for one short period when I got back from Mexico before I started working at the Maritime Museum, so I’ve never really HAD to look for a new job, I’ve just performed leuisurely scans to see if there is anything better out there.

Jump to the full entry & travel map Siem Reap, Cambodia Left Phnom Penh 7.30 a.m trying to beat the morning rush hour.Within half an hour we were out of the city centre and left behind the chaotic traffic of the city. Expecting a safer and more pleasant drive on the open road to Siem Reap I was in for a bigger surprise when I found out that the Cambodians actually drive their vehicles in the middle of the highway and only swerve to their rightful lane when they see oncoming cars from the opposite direction.The road is single lane so there are lots of swerving and shifting.I must admit after a while you get used to it and feel less endangered

I stayed in a guesthouse that was recommended to me from the guys I stayed with in Selcuk and it paled in comparision – but possibly because I was only one of two people staying there.

I thought we may have bad weather on the way up as Autumn is turning into winter, slowly but there’s a chill in the wind! The pilotage up to the Gypsum mill in Little Narrows took four and a half hours up the most beautiful river, or so I was told, unfortunately we didn’t see much of it as the rain was so thick, there was a mist most of the way up. It cleared now and again and when it did the scenery was spectacular

It wasn’t as bad as we had expected but we were surrounded by 4 smelly women and as it was allocated seating we couldn’t move anywhere else!! We arrived to Airlie Beach at 5am and sat in McDonalds for an hour before we could check into our hostel at 6am. After checking in we took advantage of the early cool weather and went for a walk around the town

Jump to the full entry & travel map Nanjing, Jiangsu, China The next stop for us was Nanjing where we started our sightseeing in the Sun Yat Sen Mausoleum, built after the death of the ‘father of China’. Next on the agenda was the Nanjing Museum and a pretty unspectacular concrete bridge! The city itself wasn’t that amazing but there was an area called Confucius Temple which was a pretty decent shopping area that was incredibly well lit in the evening.

You drive thorugh desert to get here and suddenly you are in the middle of a vineyard – really bizarre but so beautiful. Needless to say we got straight back on it and headed to the local vineyards on bikes with a couple of Ozzies that we met! The local grape is torrentes and we had enough for the rest of you – it is good stuff! The temperature over here had started to rise from Mendoza up but has hit a new high here of 37 degrees – come on tan! Therefore, we thought we deserved the bottle or two that we had that day! Next we hired bikes and headed to the mountains.

Somehow this seemed more authentic than a tourist show, with the locals tapping their feet and swaying their hips to the beat., and that was just the men!A bit of hip hop, steel drum band and the ubiquititous Policia car whoop whooping thier way through the crowds rounded off the street entertainment
