Tired as we were from traveling all day, we went out to find a club, but soon returned to the hotel- we did’nt really know the city or where to go, so instead we took an early night and fell asleep. 18th October We woke up quite early and changed to a hostel that was much cheaper and actually was quite close

Gleam, Glimmer, Shimmer!

According to Vogue and other important fashion magazines, gold is back in fashion. Of course, I don’t think that it was ever out! I love the gleam of gold, and while I will concede that there are certain gemstones that are best served by sterling silver or white gold, (think rose quartz) I generally prefer my own jewelry to be gold or a mixture of silver and gold. One of my favorite combinations is lapis, carnelian, and turquoise; all of these gemstones look great with silver (although lapis always looks better with gold), but put them all together and you’ve just got to have yellow gold to match the richness of the colours! Above , a unique bracelet with lapis, carnelian, and turquoise accented with 14 karat goldfilled elements (with the exception of the toggle which is vermeil), and below, the matching necklace and dangling earrings

Jump to the full entry & travel map Seville, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands After spending a very enjoyable day on the beach swimming and burning myself with Kirsten it was time to move on. I caught an early morning bus bound for Sevilla, and caught up on some much needed sleep on the back bench. Top traveler tip: If you want to have a bench to yourself on a bus, wear a hoodie, put your hood up and look at the ground.

WE LOVE BOOBIES — Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Jump to the full entry & travel map Galapagos Islands, Ecuador Excitement started early today as, during breakfast, crew member Jonathan spotted what he thought were whales in the distance. Within a couple of minutes, we’d all jumped in the pangas to try to get closer to them. It turned out they were in fact dolphins, and we got pretty darn close as they swam and lept around us in a feeding frenzy (like you see on Blue Planet, where they herd the fish)

Anchor, Angkor, Angkar — Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Jump to the full entry & travel map Phnom Penh, Cambodia Our day began as usual, at first light, but breakfast was several steps above our typical fare. Served in the swanky restaurant next door to our opulent hotel, it included fresh fruit/muesli, croissants, and rare coffee, brewed and served better than any chain coffee shop back home (we had espresso and cafe late). A solid breakfast was necessary, as we spent the day learning about the dark chapter of Cambodian history written and perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s.

On Safari in the Serengeti! — Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

Jump to the full entry & travel map Serengeti National Park, Tanzania We grabbed our sleeping bags and our two night pack and threw them in the trucks shortly after a big breakfast. There were two trucks for us and our “group,” Mel, Kate, Toni, and Lola, Gabe and I, all piled into one truck. We were told we wouldn’t be able to get out in order to go to the bathroom once we were in the park and so we all went when we arrived to the entrance, surprised that they were squat toilets, after all, we had paid a fortune in entrance fees

Nude Advanced Probiotic Skincare

What are probiotics ??  I’ve heard the buzzword floating around in relation to natural supplements and new products, but I recently had an opportunity to find out a little more.  Nude is a skin care line that uses advanced pre and probiotics as a base for all of their face and body products. Bryan Meehan “made organic food sexy in the UK” with his Fresh & Wild organic food markets.  He wanted to create a natural skin care line that would allow his customers who valued a natural diet the opportunity to avoid using chemicals on their bodies as well.  He became interested in the scientific research on probiotics and decided to base his skin care line on this natural method of treatment.  Probiotics are the “good bacteria” contained in plants and foods that are similar to those found naturally occurring in the human body.  Research has shown that probiotics can help the body to protect itself against the “bad bacteria.” Probiotics is an exciting field and I believe that Nude is implementing new scientific research with its probiotic-based products.  Probiotics protect the skin naturally against environmental factors to keep it healthy and moisturized.  Nude products are proudly all natural and free from parabens, sulphates, PEGs, TEA, DEA, propylene glycol, GMO, mineral oil and silicones. I had the opportunity to try the Nude Cleansing Facial Oil and Nude Miracle Mask.  I have never cleansed with an oil before!  It seems a little counter-intuitive to add oil to your face while cleansing, but it is actually a really effective way to remove makeup and avoid drying out your face.  Foaming cleansers can easily cause dryness, so it was refreshing to try the oil.  It simultaneously cleanses, nourishes, and protects.

Bailey and Epaulet Classic Fedora

A good quality classic fedora is a wardrobe staple for men and women of all ages.  I just found the perfect fedora that is a collaboration between Bailey Hats , a hat company that has been producing classic designs since 1922, and Epaulet , my favorite Brooklyn boutique that features new and unique independent designers.  Bailey and Epaulet came together and designed the “Rudie” fedora after the 1960’s Rude Boys from Kingston, Jamaica who listened to ska and reggae and dressed like soul singers from the U.S. Rudie Stingy Brim Fedora in Black $60 The Rudie is made of LiteFelt, which is “a durable virgin wool that is crushable and Teflon-coated for water and stain resistance.”  It is handmade in Pennsylvania in a traditional fedora style that is still fashionable today.  It has a grosgrain ribbon band and a small peacock feather on the side.

Grey, wet, miserable; God I hate this country! — London, England, United Kingdom

Jump to the full entry & travel map London, England, United Kingdom I can’t work out if having a break and return to reality is a good thing during a round the world trip. For the first week it seemed surreal to be back in the UK, but that quickly changed to feeling like I’d never left and as if all my travels had never actually happened. The UK has been predictably grey, wet, cold and miserable.

Poland’s Venice — Wroclaw, Western Poland, Poland

Jump to the full entry & travel map Wroclaw, Western Poland, Poland Wrocław (Breslau), often called ‘ Poland’s Venice ‘, has got by far the nicest Medieval-like Old Town that one might possibly imagine. It is surrounded by canals and rivers snaking across 12 islands on which it is built, and it has got over 157 bridges. It’s also got old post-German trams operating on the cobbled streets of the city, and its urban architecture consisting of short and dumpy tenement houses attracts the tourists from all over the globe.

A day in the park…. — Mount Aspiring National Park, New Zealand

Jump to the full entry & travel map Mount Aspiring National Park, New Zealand Today we visited Mt Aspiring National Park, which is the third largest of New Zealand’s Parks. We stopped at the Park Visitor’s Center and picked up the brochure, “Walks along the Haast Highway,” which was very helpful as we drove the 140km section of Hwy 6. We drove beyond Lakes Wanaka and Hawea, through rainforests and along rivers.
