Desert Delights — San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

Jump to the full entry & travel map San Pedro de Atacama, Chile We arrived in the desert town of San Pedro de Atacama (altitude 2,436m) after another early start and unpleasant airport experience. Here we are back in wasteland again! This time we are in luxury, staying at a relatively new hotel called Alto Atacama, 3km north of San Pedro in Pukara de Quitor which is home to a pre-Inca fortress. The hotel is embedded deep within a rich red valley and is extremely well camouflaged in its environment

Kissimmee Florida Tourist Attractions — Kissimmee, Florida, United States

Jump to the full entry & travel map Kissimmee, Florida, United States Local Kissimmee Florida tourism attractions are often overlooked by visitors to the area, mostly because many of them do little in the way of national advertising. The close proximity of Kissimmee to Orlando Florida and the larger theme parks situated there distract from the wonderful attractions of Kissimmee Florida. A city with a population of over 61,000 located in Central Florida, Kissimmee is spring training home of the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball, a baseball umpiring school and a large softball complex

Neighbour Uses Garage As Drive-Thru

From the “Didn’t See That One Coming” Files Another excellent reason to have had an antique and personal property appraisal carried out… the surprise mid-day drive-thru. The garage I was called out to wasn’t full of stored tins of hazardous chemicals like this photo – it was full of stored antiques! I was called in by the owner to have a look – and to carry out a “forensic appraisal” – where I try to figure out what the pile of stuff was worth BEFORE it became … well, a pile of stuff. There are a few issues with having a forensic appraisal done once the damage has happened: 1

Harrison’s Guest Suite…

We were commissioned by Design for Living, Inc. to incorporate hand painted toile scenes that were taken from the custom bedding and drapes.  I brought in Tara Buttons of Murals by Tara to paint the scenes for us, as I am not a fine artist and know my limits!   In the bathroom we glazed the walls to give a soft background for the artwork and we antiqued the cabinets.  In both the bedroom and the bathroom we added drama by painting the ceilings red.  We then used the design from the fabric that covers a chair in the bedroom to create custom floor cloths to bring the room together.  This is such a lovely space for guest to relax and enjoy thier visit with the Harrison’s! China Says it Has the Largest Middle Class in the World – Albeit They’ve Got Their Own Definition

The growing middle class in China could prove to be one of the largest groups of consumers the world has ever known, eventually dwarfing the United States middle class, which today, their purchases are holding up most of the World’s economies. So, just how big is the Chinese middle-class today, and how big might it get you ask? Well this is a decent question and an important one for anyone who wishes to sell their wares in China.

Eating Out and Sniffing in Grasse — Grasse, Provence, France

Jump to the full entry & travel map Grasse, Provence, France The receptionist at Le Golfe Bleu asked if we would like a baguette and croissants delivered on Sunday morning for our breakfast, and we said “Ooh yes please”, but unhappily she forgot to place the order with the bakery. So, when Alison went to pick up yummy bread and croissants, there were none, and she was, understandably, pissed off. Ah well we had intended to drive to Grasse and thought we would stop on the way for breakfast, but even the least well laid plans can go agley, and there was nothing between Roquebrune Cap Martin and Grasse, as we had chosen the shortest route via the spectacular and terrifying Grande Corniche, and the less spectacular Autostrada A8 (three lots of tolls – €1.10, €1.40 and €2.80 for a shortish trip).

Spracken de English, Laundry and White Trash — Berlin Center, Ohio, United States

Jump to the full entry & travel map Berlin Center, Ohio, United States After a wonderful time in Amsterdam (both very sad to leave), we somehow managed to leave our plasma screen tv and glorious shower behind and trotted down the 6 flights of stairs, all before 7.00am people!!! A mere 25 minute walk with packs later, we found the pickup point for our first Busabout (Bus to Berlin) leg, with Lewey’s fabulous map skills! 10 hours and a semi comfortable trip later, we arrived in Berlin. Our tourguide on the bus was a delightful guy from Spain, who had stumbled into the infamous ‘Oktoberfest’ for just ein stein (one giant beer) and told us he did not remember how he got back to his hostel! Hilarious guy, kept correcting his English and getting frustrated with himself

The colors of Siena — Siena, Tuscany, Italy

Jump to the full entry & travel map Siena, Tuscany, Italy This morning we were able to sleep in – of course because I could stay in bed, I awoke at the crack of dawn and got dressed and walked the borders of the property looking for wildlife or interesting pictures. Today’s olive oil appreciation class was taught by Marco – he is the farm manager and one of the few Italians properly trained to distinguish between olive oil, extra virgin and virgin. Set before us were five small plastic cups which each held about a tablespoon of olive oil and a decanter of water.

Reflections on our time in India — Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, India

Jump to the full entry & travel map Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, India People say that you can not merely ’see’ India but are forced to experience it to a greater or lesser extent. This sore fact is now quite apparent to us and I hope to be able to give some impression of the confusing emotions that have been aroused. The primary and most obvious facet of Indian life that is unavoidably obvious even to the most casual visitor is the level of abject poverty

GPS Tom Tom functionality problems — Nuneaton, England, United Kingdom

Jump to the full entry & travel map Nuneaton, England, United Kingdom Hi there, So the only reason why we decided to stay in Nuneaton was so I could go and play golf at the course that I used to be a member at, Hinckley Golf Club! So we set off from Redditch after a relaxing evening and headed for the golf club. Mat decided he also wanted to come up and play, he was to arrive at about 1.30pm so after a brief lunch from ASDA (supermarket) the girls dropped me off and they headed off into Leicester to find a cinema. My golf was great.

Day Fifty One – Queen Elizabeth National Park — Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

Jump to the full entry & travel map Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda As Berns was supposed to do his tea plantation walk this morning, we have a slightly later start than usual – breakfast at 7:30 to leave at 8. However, Berns does not get up for the walk so we all get a lie in without reason which is a little frustrating as it’s always better to get going and get to wherever we’re going sooner rather than sleeping in

Left hand driving and upcoming sales champ ;) — Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Jump to the full entry & travel map Melbourne, Victoria, Australia After about 10 days there was a point where I noticed that I had got used to the left hand driving when I was about to pass the street and automatically looked in the right (in both meanings) direction! And yesterday was the first time I actually drove over here – and that was the 12 seat van from work, loaded with the people from work, all more or less sober (I was sober) with loud music through Melbourne’s city centre – great fun lol. Oh ya – work. It’s fun! The people are great, I’m having a lot of fun with them and we hang out after work and on the weekend, I look forward to getting to work in the morning.

Wacky Headwear from Paris Fashion Week

Runway shows can be as much about creating a giant spectacle as they are about the clothes… Some of the designers from Paris Fashion Week are certainly proving that! Check out some of these extreme, um – hats?  Headwear?  Sculpture?  Gardening experiments? from the Spring & Summer 2010 collections: How many of us played with pots, pans and collanders as kids?  I bet you’ve got a photo stashed away somewhere with a strainer on your head, right? Do we want to wear them as adults too?

A dramatic landscape change — Zhangmu, Tibet, China

Jump to the full entry & travel map Zhangmu, Tibet, China From the Everest base camp, we made our way along the Friendship Highway through the exciting desert-like scenery with the snow peaks of the Himalayan range at the horizon, arriving to the Chinese looking Nyalam in the evening. We had planned to do some trekking to the lake nearby the next morning, but I was struck down by a ferocious food poisoning during the middle of the night and it continued until late afternoon.
