We just got an early blast of winter – which made me remember that I hadn’t replaced my old pair of winter boots. Oops! There’s nothing quite like waking up to two inches of snow… and the realization that you having nothing to keep your feet warm and dry!  Hey, at least it’s a good excuse to go shoe shopping And while the classic “ Moon Boot” may be warm and cozy, they aren’t quite the style statement I’m trying to make: Luckily, there are lots of stylish options to keep my toes warm, dry and fashionable this winter. UGG makes the very cute “ Gisella ” wedge heel ankle boot: If you’d prefer something a little taller, maybe with a slouch, the “ McKenzie ” boot from Annie may fill the bill.  It’s vegan-friendly and available in both black and brown: And for a dash of lush color, the “ Blanche ” by La Canadienne is available in cherry-colored crinkle patent leather: images: Zappos Post from: Splendicity .

Now this is a special place! The church of St Simeon is located in historic quarters of Zadar: near the Roman entrance to ancient Jadera. The tiny square is one of my most favorite places in the World! Small, quiet, historic… just radiates with harmony! I cannot explain it, but it simply shines with tranquility. The church of St Simeon (Sveti Šime) was originally an old Christian three-nave basilica, then a Gothic adaptation and finally an important monument of provincial baroque.

Lots of people love the aged, old, battered, shabby chic look on French furniture, something that gives the piece a used feeling to it. For those antique furniture items that do not already have this with it, either because they are too new or they are too pristine, the look can be created in lots of different ways. The term used for making something look older or more worn, is one I absolutely adore, it is called ‘distressing’

Most of us don’t have the time and money to visit a manicurist regularly to get our nails taken care of professionally, so it’s important to take the right steps to take care of them at home.  Even if you don’t want to wear nail color, it’s an important part of your appearance to have clean and healthy nails. I’ve been doing a little reading on various health and beauty websites and have compiled some important and easy advice for taking care of your nails at home.  It can be easy and affordable to maintain healthy nails if you know how… Don’t bite, chew, or peel your nails.

Lisa Hochstein Compass salvaged paper collage Paper work is very often considered to be, within the textile world at least, an integral part of the process of both textile design and textile artwork. In many cases the paper work is the first stage of a fairly lengthy process whereby ideas are first formulated, often changed and manipulated before being transferred to another medium, whether that be textile printing, weaving, quilting, embroidery, or indeed fine art painting. However, it should be noted that paper collage is in its own right an art form and should not be seen as a mere process towards another medium or idea.

I’ve been noticing all of the colorful plastic and rubber watches that have been gaining popularity as an affordable fashion accessory lately and trying to decide which kind to get.  The classic Timex 80 is an obvious option, but I have recently been intrigued by the bright colors and personalization of Toywatch watches . Image: Nordstrom This Toywatch Jelly Customizable Watch has a fun concept that takes me back to my childhood days.  Little girls love changing their jewelry to match their outfit, and I remember that I had lots of accessories with similar customizable concepts when I was growing up.  The Jelly Watch has six color options for the watch face case and the same six colors for the rubber strap.  the colors are bright and fun, just like the rest of Toywatch watches.  You can mix and match the face and the strap to create the specific color combo that you are looking for.  I don’t think you would be switching out your watch face and your strap every morning so that your watch will match your outfit, but I do love the idea that you can create the exact watch combo that you want.

Not only do I not come from an antiquing background, there is an almost complete lack of accessorizing in my family.  While Divas come from many backgrounds, my engineering paternal line and accounting maternal line hold strictly to the stereotypes that pop into your head (see www.Dilbert.com ), so my foray into becoming a Fashion Diva is also new to me. I’ve been experimenting… sloowlly… with adding bits of jewelry and accessories to a wardrobe that’s getting increasingly “funkier”, and putting to good use some of the information I learned while researching vintage and costume jewelry when we helped a friend with his late mother’s possessions.

Jump to the full entry & travel map Beijing, China Beijing has taken me utterly by surprise. I anticipated wanting to escape minutes after arrival, expecting a huge, smog-bound, noisy, dirty, smelly, unfriendly concrete jungle. But, while I’m sure there are areas fitting such a description, the city centre is very appealing: yes, it’s polluted but the streets are clean and noise levels are low for a big city, and there are plenty of old traditional-style buildings along tree-lined streets leading to landscaped parks.

Jump to the full entry & travel map Beijing, China I got here just in time for the party! It was sixty years ago yesterday that Mao Zedong stood at the Gate of Heavenly Peace and proclaimed the People’s Republic. And after all the turbulent years which followed, he remains in the vicinity today, his enormous portrait hanging on the same gate, while his preserved body lies directly across, in Tian’anmen Square, in a huge mausoleum. Whatever torment the people lived through in the first half of the republic’s existence there is no doubt about the feelings of the thousands pouring into the capital to celebrate this anniversary: thronging through the city, waving flags and banners in the tangible excitement, these citizens are delighted to be Chinese and to be commemorating their history

Jump to the full entry & travel map Munich, Bavaria, Germany Well we headed out from Frankfurt and it seemed rude not to try and get into the Ocktoberfest..we snared a hotel room and english babysitter so we were all set! First trip to the festival was in the daytime so Lauren could go on afew rides and have sausage in a bun (loves to follow Mummy’s diet)..Stu came back crestfallen as all the tables were fully booked about 1 yr in advance, luckily our babysitter gave us the inside tip of just turning up to a beer hall tent and standing near the oompah band stand..this we duly did and had a great night out in the Hofbrauhouse tent. we subsequently learnt that the locals call this the “pig pen” due to all the kiwis, english and generally tourists, who frequent this tent..12,000 making merry and not one fight. The band were hilarious doing brass band versions of Oasis and Robbie Williams hits..cracking! Mind you with the security looking like neanderthals you’d be mad to start a fight
